Josh

2014-04-17 11.29.46

Josh likes playing cricket and versus lots of hard teams. He’s 11 years old and a Year 6. He plays for Boys High A.K.A Old Boys.

When he gets nervous he flicks himself with his rubber band that he keeps on his wrist .

His cricket bat is a Puma brand . So is his red cricket ball.  He and his Dad practise everyday. That’s how he gets player of the day so often. He also has a secret power to control the ball when he’s bowling.  Sometimes he organises a game at school in the breaks.

His current school is Glenview Primary, but he wants to go to Hillcrest School because his friends next door go there and because there’s nice teachers, not like Ms Kai.

He likes spaghetti bolognese and spicy noodles. People think that’s disgusting.

Interface

Wow! We got featured on a website.

Interface is a magazine and website that lets teachers learn more about how to use ICT and technology in their classrooms.  They featured us on their webpage with two other class blogs, Moturoa Blog in Nelson and Livewires in Puahue.  Awesome!

On the last day of term we had a cake to celebrate our forty thousandth visitor.  The cake was in the shape of a google map pin.

Using Windows Live Writer for Blogging

image

Whichever blogging platform you decide to use, Windows Live Writer can be used to publish to it.

Installing is easy enough, just go to Windows Live and download the latest version.  Make sure you only select Live Writer for download, unless you want the other Live programs offered.  When installing uncheck the boxes that ask if you want to install the Microsoft toolbar or reset your homepage (of course this is up to you).

Once installed Live Writer offers a familiar interface for users, this was important in my selection of it as the blogging tool for children in class. Menus and icons are mostly self-explanatory, but if you’re not sure- hover over the item and a tooltip will identify it for you.  A sidebar contains other functions you will need, like insert, plugins, draft posts and settings.

To set up your blog go to Tools>>Accounts… .>>Add…>>Other Blog Service…and enter your blog details, user name and password. Pick “remember my password” so you don’t have to enter it every time.
Live Writer add blog

To use Live Writer at school you will need to add the proxy details here. Once you’ve done all this you’re ready to post!

Assembly Video

We showed this movie in assembly yesterday.  The spoken parts were recorded in Audacity, some video was converted with zamzar, screen capture was by camstudio.  Final editing was done in Windows Movie Maker.

We made a movie to show people our blog and to let everyone see the dancing video.

We Did It!

At about 3:15pm yesterday afternoon we hit 20 000 pageviews.  Your writing and artwork has now been viewed over 20 000 times since September 2005.  Your interesting writing, awesome illustrations and personal news keeps readers coming back for more.  Well done Room 9!  We’ll have cake on Friday to celebrate.
