Going to Australia Part 2
I have been in Australia for 6 days now. We flew with Emirates, they gave us a great backpack filled with free things to do. There were over a 100 movies to choose from to watch.
We went shopping the first day as it was raining. On the second day we went to Dreamworld and loved it. I went on the Tower of Terror, it was fun! There is a new ride called Moto-coaster, it has motorbikes and goes really fast. I went on the Runaway raptor rollercoaster about 7 times as the park was not busy. I got wet on the log ride.
The next day we went to Movieworld with my aussie cousins. I went on the Batman spaceshot ride and also the Batman Simulator and lots of other things. I loved the road runner roller coaster. I met Shrek, Scooby Doo characters, Wonder Woman, Sylvester, Cat woman and Batman.
I have been playing bratz a lot with my cousins. A street called “Savannah” is nearby, I will have my photo taken by it. It rained so much the first two days, it was the worst flood in Brisbane since 1974! They are officially no longer in a drought now so we have seen alot of the inside of shopping malls (not that I mind or Mum). I have got new clothes and toys.

Our Glenview Kid!
Last week on Thursday afternoon Glenview school had a special whole school assembly because we were launching a new school charter.
Before lunch we put our Glenview Kid on Mr. Anderson’s trolley and took it into the hall.
After lunch we went into the hall. Everybody talked about their Glenview Kid, it went from junior to senior. When it was our turn Gemma and Quinn went over to our Glenview Kid. We got three BIG cheers.
We sat in the hall for about an hour and a half. All of the Glenview Kids were cool. We finished about 15 minutes late. I had a fun time listening to the other classes and watching their movies.

My Fluffy Kiwi
A few years ago I got a toy kiwi. My nanny got one for me and my friend.
My kiwi’s name is Fluffy. Fluffy has two feet with white toenails. She has a beak. Her feet are for walking, her beak is for eating and smelling. Her fur is different shades of brown. Fluffy’s fur is smooth and soft. She has two eyes. She eats worms. She has three toes on each foot.
I like to play with Fluffy. She is my favourite toy.

My Weekend
A few weekends ago me and my dad went to Te Kuiti.
We saw the sheep shearing it was cool. Then I had an ice cream. After I went on the tea cup ride and I got really dizzy.
Then we went back to the shearing. After that they did the sheep run, but they did not have enough fencing line so they used wire. Then the sheep ran. There were poos every where. The sheep started going crazy so they ran underneath the wire.
Then we went home we got a flat tyre. Then dad lost his phone. He was so mad.

Player of the Day
Last Saturday I played Rugby.
I play for Melville and we played Varsity. I got 7 tries and player of the Day. My position is wing. For player of the day I got a ribbon, then we went to the club rooms at 5.00 and I waited for my name to be called out and they told me to come up and get my hoodie. It has Melville and Player of the Day on it.

How to Cook Chestnuts
- Wash all the chestnuts in cold water
- Put the chestnuts in the colander to drain the water
- Put them in a big pot and boil them for half an hour
- Cut them in half
- Check to see if some of them are rotten [they're rotten if they're black or brown inside]
- Put butter on them
- Fry them in a frying pan
- Peel the shell off the chestnuts and eat them
If chestnuts have a point at the top you can eat them. Chestnuts that have no point aren’t good to eat.

30 000
On Friday 1st May Room 9 had a celebration because we had the thirty thousandth visitor to our blog. It was during the holidays on April 17th at 4:50:41 am. They came from Madrid in Spain.
We had party table cloths with balloons on and we had delightful, delicious cupcakes. Each cupcake was covered in white icing. They had a candle (red, green or purple) and some little silver sugar balls. There were 30 cupcakes and each one had ten silver balls on and each silver ball stood for one hundred visitors.
Miss Pope stood by with the fire extinguisher just in case. Mr Fawcett lit the candles and we sang a Happy 30 000 song. Then Mr Fawcett took some photos. With a powerful breath we all blew out the candles together.
Finally we went outside and ate our cupcakes on the deck. They were more than delicious, they were scrumptious. We’ll have our next party at forty thousand visitors. We can’t wait!

Camp Karakariki
At camp my group was called CAMP ROCK!
We did lots of activities. One of the activities was BMXing. Mr Fawcett showed us how to go over the hills on a bike. Then four people from CAMP ROCK got a BMX bike and one person went at a time. Everyone had a few turns going around the track.
Soon we had to move onto shooting. Shooting and archery were a lot of fun.
My favourite activity was the tree climb. It was my favourite because it was my first time climbing a tree.
One of the camp parents had to hold onto a rope. One person went up the tree at a time. Everyone had a go. Some of us made it to the top. I did!
I had a fantastic time at camp.

I Got to Meet Greg Murphy at the V8s!!!
I went to the the Hamilton 400 on Friday 17.4.09 with Dad, my brother Brock and 5 other family members. When we were at the Holden merchandise tent I saw Greg Murphy signing posters. He signed our posters and was happy to let us take a photo with him. My aunty got him to sign her arm!
It was fun and I felt happy and lucky meeting someone so well known.

Send a Postcard to Space
Hi Room 9, I hope you’re all enjoying your holidays. I see that some of you have been on the wiki – well done!
I’m sure you all remember our visitor Eric Boe who came to school to tell us about space, NASA and the International Space Station (ISS).
There are a few astronauts on the ISS at the moment and one of them has a birthday. Ask your parents first, but if you’d like to send a birthday card to Michael Barratt (in space) click on this link and follow the instructions. Where it says “Type your city” I also added NZ so that he’d know it was from New Zealand.
I wonder if he’s having a birthday cake?

The Hamilton Gardens
On Saturday I went to the Hamilton gardens.
In the Victorian gardens we went to catch tadpoles. We got lots of them in fact we got so many the pond was nearly empty of its tadpoles.
In the jungle part of the glass house building we saw 3 pitcher plants, one was yellow, one was green, and one was red. In the desert part of the glass house building we saw some BIG cactus.
In the lake we saw the koi carp fish jumping out of the water, they catch mosquitos. A swallow was catching mossies too. We saw the live turtle that was lucky, but one of the only things we didn’t see was the eel.It was a great day becauseyou don’t see the turtle or the koi carp fish jumping out of the water every day.
I found out that some of the car parks used to be net ball courts.

Thirty Thousand Page Views
It doesn’t seem long ago since Room 9 did this last year, but I just checked and our class blog has had 29, 169 visits. It took 3 years to reach 20,000 and just 6 months to reach nearly 30,000 visits.
We have about 100 visitors every day from all over the world, but that won’t be enough for us to reach 30, 000 before we finish school on Thursday afternoon.
It looks like we’ll have to celebrate our 30, 000 milestone after the holidays. Well done to everyone who has published their writing, artwork, photos or movies. Special thanks to the Room Niners, parents and family who have commented on blog posts and an extra special thank you to all the people in New Zealand and around the world who have visited and commented.
Cupcakes all round next term! [shall we make them and bake them ourselves?]

Climbing the Tree
On Thursday we played lots of games at camp.
One was climbing a tree. When I went swimming it was freezing in the pool. My favourite activity was climbing the tree because it’s fun and its really high.
When I went half way up and I said “I can’t do it.”
Then a parent said “Yes you can.”
So I kept on climbing to the top of the tree. So I screamed, “I GOT IT!” Then I went down the tree and I was amazed because I did it.

Camp Karakariki
On the 2nd day of camp there were lots of activities.
I did BMX for my 3rd activity and it was my 2nd favourite activity. Mr Fawcett took a photo of me when I went down the hill very fast. I didn’t fall off the BMX.
The BMXs were easy for me, but I went pretty slow up the big hill.
I liked doing the BMX.

Nightglow and Fireworks
I walked around to the University on Saturday evening to watch the nightglow and fireworks. I thought they were starting at 8:30pm to match up with Earthhour, but when I got there they’d already started.
If you didn’t see the display here’s a short video (actually it’s quite long and may take some time to load).

Kayaking
At Camp my group was the SUPER STARS.
On Thursday at Camp Karakariki I went kayaking. First I got my togs on and got my towel. Then I walked to the kayaks through a gate. It took about five minutes. I was nervous because I thought that I was going to fall in. I was excited. I put on a lifejacket. Mrs Tooley gave me a paddle. We practiced rowing out of the water. Then I got in the kayak with Mrs Tooley. I got wet, but I didn’t fall in.
I liked kayaking. It was fun.

Kayaking at Camp Karakariki
Last Wednesday I went to Camp Karakariki.
I went to kayaking with my group the ALL STARS. Mrs Tooley told us to get a paddle and find a space. Mrs Tooley showed us how to move the paddle. Then we tried. After that we got our life jacket on.
Then we got in the KAYAK. I was a little wobbly in my kayak. My dad in the rowboat helped me to stop wobbling in my kayak. Then I got a lot better at it.
Then Mrs Tooley said to come in and Bria and Levi’s mum’s boat nearly sank.
Kayaking was fun.

Stick Insect
This morning my dad found a stick insect on our door.
He picked it up and put it in an old ice cream container with gladwrap on top. He poked holes in the gladwrap with a fork.
I brought it to school and showed just about everybody in the school. At morning tea Mr F took a photo of it. I didn’t eat any morning tea because i was too busy with the stick insect.
A boy in another clasroom whacked the insect with his pink hat. After that it has a broken leg.
After the bell went for the end of morning tea I stuck the stick insect on the tree outside Room 8.
I wonder if he’s still there? He is! We just went for a look and he has climbed higher up the tree.

The Weekend in Auckland
On Saturday, in Auckland, I had two choices. Number one was to go to the museum. Number two was to go to the star dome thing.
I chose the museum and it was really cool. I saw a green moray eel and a moa. I saw the dinosaur bones from the T-Rex named Sue. I found out that the female T-Rex on Walking with Dinosaurs was Sue. I also found out that the Auckland Zoo once had a male elephant.
I saw a species of Salmon in the Weird and Wonderful and in the Wild Child we saw a stuffed stoat or a ferret.
The next day was sunny in Auckland so I decided to go to the park. When I was going out I saw a weta in the hole of the gate. When I was on the bridge I saw fish in the stream. I rushed to get my net. I rushed down to catch one. I kept on missing, but at the end, when I saw one under the weed, I caught one.
Later on we went to the pet store to get a pet. I saw some snake head turtles and some blue tongue lizards and a white goggley eyed fish and a bearded dragon and a litte puppy labrador. Kelly decided to get a Siamese cat. It meowed a lot in the car. It was very shy. When I last saw it she was in a corner.
I would have liked to have got a snake head turtle.

Meet the Chiefs
Yesterday we had an assembly in the hall to meet two of the Chiefs.
When we were all seated Mr Mangan introduced Joe and Hika the Chiefs’ prop and hooker.
They had four main messages-
- Read
- Eat breakfast
- School is cool
- Set goals
They also talked about their practices and training. They let us ask lots of questions.
At the end they gave out posters and balls as rewards for best questions and comments.
We were very lucky to meet the two Chiefs’ players and hear their very cool messages.

Icy Tower
On Sunday 22 February me and Brock helped mum defrost the freezer.
“big bits of ice stuck to our feet”Mum scraped the ice into the bucket and we crushed it on our drive way. Big bits of ice stuck to our feet. We had to walk up and down our stairs to get it off.

We used the little pieces of ice to make an icy tower. It was about 20cm high. An hour and a half later it had melted and there were only a few bits of ice left.
It was really fun.

Hamilton Hot Air Balloon
In the morning when I woke up I saw a hot air balloon. It was the Hamilton balloon.
It was really close to our house. I waved at the people. I could see them, but they couldn’t see me.
It was making a loud noise like SHWWWW. I saw them pulling the fire thing. It was a really big balloon. I wanted to go in the hot air balloon.
